Soon after Hillary Clinton made history on Tuesday after becoming the first woman to win the Democratic presidential nomination, her husband and former President of the United States Bill Clinton called her a “change-maker” as he addressed the party’s Philadelphia convention. As he sought to make a strong case for her, he said she would be the best pilot for “the ride to America’s future” and that voters “should elect her because she’ll never quit when the going gets tough”.

Earlier, Hillary Clinton’s former rival Vermont Senator also endorsed her nomination, though his supporters protested during the convention on Tuesday. Several protestors were detained by police. Soon after her nomination was announced, Hillary Clinton said, “I can’t believe we just put the biggest crack in that glass ceiling yet… If there are any little girls out there who stayed up late to watch, let me just say: I may become the first woman president, but one of you is next.”

Clinton was also backed by others including Former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, actors Meryl Streep, America Ferrera and Lena Dunham. Ferrera had said about Clinton’s Republican rival, “Donald [Trump] is not making America great again. He's making America hate again.”

Following the Republican party convention, Trump had taken the lead in some US polls. The CNN-ORC poll had given him a three-point lead, while a Reuters-Ipsos poll also gave him the lead on Tuesday.
