The Manohar Lal Khattar government in Haryana has approved Rs 12.07-crore compensation for 1984 anti-Sikh riots victims, reported PTI. The chief minister's official nod came on Tuesday after Justice (retd) T P Garg Commission, set up to look into the matter, submitted its suggestions.
The panel had received 193 applications from Gurgaon and Pataudi for compensation. It met 109 applicants and heard 384 witnesses. According to state Finance Minister Captain Abhimanyu the committee got 367 documents related to the riots.
The government has approved Rs 5.75 crore for 36 cases of death and Rs 26 lakh for two cases of injury. The minister said Khattar has also okayed Rs 4.80 crore for damages caused to residential property, besides signification compensation for 84 cases of damage to commercial property. The government issues a notice announcing the decision and said the financial aid will be distributed among the victims soon.
