A special court on Tuesday granted bail to Arvind Kejriwal’s former principal secretary, Rajendra Kumar, on a bond of Rs one lakh. Kumar was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation early in July in connection with a Rs 50-crore computer purchase scandal. He had been arrested along with four others. Kumar was suspended from his post after his arrest, in accordance with rules that stipulate that an officer is considered suspended if he is in police custody for more than 48 hours.
The CBI conducted raids in Kumar’s office at the Delhi Secretariat last year and accused him of criminal conspiracy. The agency filed an FIR in the case in December, accusing Kumar of favouring a firm while getting tenders from the Delhi government. The Delhi chief minister and other Aam Aadmi Party members had claimed the move was part of a conspiracy to paralyse Kejriwal’s office.
