Nine militants, believed to be from the banned Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh, were killed during a raid on a house in Dhaka’s Kallyanpur area on Tuesday. According to the Dhaka Tribune, two more are in police custody. The police conducted an hour-long raid at the five story building, calling it Operation Storm 26. While the identities of the militants have not been confirmed yet, their clothes and other belongings suggested they were members of the JMB.
The Bangladesh government had blamed the group for carrying out the attack on July 1 in Dhaka’s Gulshan area, where a lot of major diplomatic building are located. However, the Islamic State group had claimed responsibility for the attack, in which 20 civilians and two police personnel died. The Bangladesh government has consistently denied the presence of the Islamic State group in the country.
