Mobile internet services were reportedly restored in Jammu on Tuesday, more than a fortnight after they were suspended, The Indian Express said. However, it remained unconfirmed whether service providers besides Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd were allowed to function in the region. Reports said mobile internet continues to be suspended in Kashmir.
A curfew-like situation has prevailed in the state since protests erupted following the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani. Curfew was also lifted from all districts except Anantnag on Tuesday.
For days, the only mobile service functional in some parts of the Valley was reportedly Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd, and the only internet connectivity was BSNL broadband service. More than 40 people have died in the clashes that ensued after Wani's assassination, which was followed by statements from Pakistan and an outcry against the use pellet guns by security forces in Jammu and Kashmir.
