Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan on Monday said a nine-member inquiry committee has been set up to look into the video Aam Aadmi Party MP Bhagwant Mann uploaded from inside Parliament, which had sparked a massive outcry from his fellow legislators last week. Mahajan told Mann that he ought to refrain from coming to Parliament for the ongoing Monsoon Session till the probe panel comes to a conclusion on the video, which was criticised for being a security threat and a breach of protocol.
Bharatiya Janata Party MP Kirit Somaiya will head the panel, which is likely to submit its report in August. Somaiya and other BJP leaders Maheish Girri and Prem Singh Chandumajra had moved a privilege notice against Mann on Thursday, when he had put up the clip.
Mann’s video showed various parts of the Parliament premises and was uploaded on Facebook. Several leaders, many of them from the BJP, had criticised this as “highly irresponsible”. Mann had first defended his actions, but later apologised saying he meant no harm.
