Khadga Prasad Oli resigned as Prime Minister of Nepal on Sunday, accusing the country's Congress and Maoists of conspiring against his government, reported PTI. The senior leader took the decision just ahead of a no-confidence motion move by Opposition parties including the Nepali Congress, the Maoist Communist party (CPN-MC) and the CPN-United.

The 64-year-old Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist Leninist) leader said he was being punished for the good work he has done by strengthening the country's relations with India and China. Oli became the prime minister in October 2015. He decided to step down after he got to know that two parties in the his coalition government were planning to support the Opposition in the vote.

"The game for a change in the government at this time is mysterious. The relations between Nepal and China and the relations between Nepal and India are unique, which cannot be compared with one another," he said. His party has 175 elected seats in the House, while he needs 299 votes to win a vote of confidence.
