A 17-year-old boy was stabbed to death at the Kolkata home of author Amit Chaudhari on Saturday, allegedly by his friend who is also a minor. The incident took place at Chaudhari’s Ballygunge Place home at a birthday party for his daughter. The police said the victim, Aabesh Dasgupta, was “stabbed repeatedly with a broken glass bottle” after he and the attacker got into an altercation. Both had reportedly been drinking.
Chaudhari and his wife took Dasgupta to hospital, where where was declared dead on arrival. The police said the attack was “brutal” and that Dasgupta had multiple chest and back injuries. They also recovered pieces of the broken bottle.
Chaudhari is a Sahitya Akademi award winner and a professor of contemporary literature in the UK.
