Internationally acclaimed artist Syed Haider Raza died on Saturday morning in Delhi after a prolonged illness, PTI reported. The Padma Shri winner was 94 years old. Poet Ashok Vajpeyi said Raza died around 11 am. Raza, who was originally from Madhya Pradesh, was elected a fellow of the Lalit Kala Akademi in 1984. His funeral will be held in Mandala, Madhya Pradesh.
Raza was conferred the highest French civilian honour, the Legion of Honour, in 2015. He was also awarded the Padma Bhushan, in 2007, and Padma Vibhushan, in 2013.
