India strengthened their grip on the first Test against the West Indies in Antigua after Virat Kohli (200) and Ravichandran Ashwin (113) helped the visitors put on 566/8 on the board on Day 2 on Friday. Skipper Kohli scored his maiden Test double century, while Ashwin hit the third ton of his career, all of which have now come against the West Indies. The hosts were at 31/1 at stumps.

After resuming their innings on Day 2 at 302/4, India declared post the tea break, after batting for almost 162 overs. The West Indies bowling attack toiled hard, but could not restrict India's surge. Their sloppy fielding did not make it any easier. As the hosts began their innings, Mohammad Shami, who returned from a long injury layoff, took the wicket of Rajendra Chandrika in the final session to give India firm control.
