School holidays in Kashmir were extended by a week, while 20 more Central Reserve Police Force companies were deployed in the state on Sunday, PTI reported. All ten districts remained under curfew, while mobile services also remained suspended. “Security forces have been instructed to allow movement of patients along with their attendants,” a senior police official told Firstpost.
Two more people died in the state, bringing the toll up to 41. The valley has witnessed violent clashes and protests after the killing of Burhan Wani, commander of the Hizbul Mujahideen on July 8.
Newspapers were not distributed in Jammu and Kashmir for the second consecutive day. While most newspapers working out of Srinagar could not go to print, copies of those who had printed their editions were seized at midnight and in early morning raids on Saturday, reported IANS. As a result, newspapers – English, Urdu or Kashmiri – saw no circulation in the Valley.
