Pakistani police on Saturday arrested Qandeel Baloch’s brother Waseem Azeem for her murder. Azeem killed Baloch, a social media celebrity, on Friday in Multan. He was found by police around 100 km away from the city late on Saturday. Baloch’s father Mohammed Azeem filed a case against his son, and also said that another one of his sons encouraged Waseem to carry out the killing, police told Al Jazeera. Both sons went missing after the 26-year-old’s murder, which was an honour killing.

Waseem Azeem also confessed to murdering his sister, Dawn reported. Azeem said, "She [Baloch] was on the ground floor while our parents were asleep on the roof top. It was around 10:45 pm when I gave her a tablet... and then killed her... She wasn't aware I was killing her."

Punjab police spokesperson Nabila Ghazzanfar said that the initial post-mortem showed that Baloch died, not because of strangulation as was earlier suggested, but from her airways being blocked off when her nose and mouth were forced shut. Following her death, Sherry Rahman, a Senator and advocate for women’s and minorities’ rights, called for the Pakistani national assembly to pass an anti-honour killing bill.

Baloch, whose real name was Fauzia Azeem, had become famous through her self-promotion and selfies posted on social media. She had tens of thousands of followers who praised her forthright attitude. In her final Facebook post on Friday, Baloch had said, "...I am trying to change the typical orthodox mindset of people who don't wanna come out of their shells of false beliefs and old practices."

The 26-year-old, who hailed from the tribal area of Shah Sadar Din of Dera Ghazi Khan district, started her career as a bus hostess. She shot to fame after she shared selfies and a video of her with Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee Mufti Abdul Qawi that led to the latter's suspension from the committee.

She was recently in the news for her “tumultuous” marriage. One Aashiq Hussain of Kot Addu claimed on TV that he was married to Baloch. She later alleged that she was forcibly married and accused her former husband of domestic abuse. Three days ago, reports of her two other marriages also surfaced.
