Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump on Friday announced on Twitter that his candidate for vice president will be Indiana Governor Mike Pence. The 57-year-old had endorsed Texas Senator Ted Cruz in the primaries, before Trump became the GoP presidential candidate. Other Republicans in the running for the post were reportedly Newt Gingrich and Chris Christie. Trump announced a press conference in New Jersey on Saturday to introduce Pence.
The conservative is known for his stance against abortion, Planned Parenthood and gay rights, and will make for sharper battle lines between Trump's campaign and Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton. Pence has reportedly signed bills for tighter anti-abortion laws. Pence has earlier described himself "a Christian, a conservative and a Republican, in that order", PTI reported.
