The Congress on Thursday announced that Sheila Dikshit will be its chief ministerial candidate in Uttar Pradesh ahead of upcoming elections in the state. The 78-year-old earlier served three terms as chief minister of Delhi.
Earlier this week, Congress had announced that actor-turned-politician Raj Babbar will be the state party president, while Imran Masood, Rajesh Mishra and Raja Ram Pal were made vice presidents.
Earlier there were also rumours that Priyanka Gandhi Vadra might have a bigger role to play in the upcoming elections. However, party leader Ghulam Nabi Azad said that she will campaign in Rae Bareli and Amethi Assembly seats, which are represented by Congress chief Sonia Gandhi and party Vice-President Rahul Gandhi respectively.
