Indian football legend Amal Dutta passed away at the age of 86 at his Kolkata residence, after suffering from age-related illnesses. Dutta represented India at the 1954 Asian Games and was considered the first professional football coach in the country.
"He was suffering from breathing problems, but was well till the morning," said his son Ashis Dutta, according to IANS. "His condition deteriorated in the evening when we rushed him to a hospital. The doctors tried a lot but could not help."
In his coaching days for which he received much acclaim, Dutta managed both East Bengal and Mohun Bagan and was recognised for introducing the "diamond" system of football in Indian football.
