World No 2 Andy Murray defeated sixth seed Milos Raonic in straight sets 6-4 7-6 (3) 7-5 (2) to win the men's singles championship at Wimbledon 2016. This was his second Wimbledon title and his third overall Grand Slam win.
Raonic looked to replicate his form from the semi-final, where he upstaged Roger Federer in a thrilling five-setter, but 29-year old Murray proved a far tougher opposition. Both traded blows on serve till 4-4, before Murray upped his game and started pulling out one return after another. It helped him break his Canadian opponent at a crucial moment, with Murray going on to win the set 6-4.
The second played out similarly. Murray, again, looked like he would break Raonic at 4-4, with the Canadian down 30-40, but the 21-year old made a great comeback to keep the momentum going. It ultimately went on to the tie-breaker, with the scores at 6-6. The Scottish World No 2, however, was in pristine form, pulling off some jaw-dropping returns to take the tie-breaker 7-3 and with it. the second set.
Raonic wasn't finished though, and he fought hard through the third set, ensuring he was not broken, to take it to a tie-breaker. But the Scot produced two great passes to zoom into a 5-0 lead. Raonic finally hit the net at 2-5 down to give Murray an emotional victory at Centre Court.
