Hamza bin Laden, the son of assassinated al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden, has reportedly threatened to exact revenge against the United States for his father’s death. SITE Intelligence Group said on Sunday that Hamza, in an audio message shared online, vowed to continue the terror group’s fight against the US and its allies, in a 21-muinute-long speech titled “We Are All Osama”, Reuters reported.
“We will continue striking you and targeting you in your country and abroad, in response to your oppression of the people of Palestine, Afghanistan, Syria, Iraq, Yemen, Somalia and the rest of the Muslim lands that did not survive your oppression,” Hamza said. “As for the revenge by the Islamic nation for Sheikh Osama – may Allah have mercy on him – it is not revenge for Osama the person, but it is revenge for those who defended Islam.”
In 2011, a decade after the September 11 attacks, US forces had killed Osama bin Laden at his hideout in Abbottabad, Pakistan. According to US think tank Brookings Institution, Hamza provides al Qaeda with a “new face” with direct links to its founder. “He [Hamza] is an articulate and dangerous enemy,” Bruce Riedel of Brookings said.
