Sixth seeded Milos Raonic from Canada progressed to the final of Wimbledon 2016 on Friday after defeating 17-time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer 6-3 6-7 4-6 7-5 6-3.
After dropping the first set, Federer kept his cool in a tight second set to take it to a tie-breaker and ultimately prevailed 7-3. After that, he showed off glimpses of his imperious best taking the next set 6-4, despite some big serving from his opponent.
The fourth set see-sawed between Raonic and Federer as none of them managed to get a break ten games into the set. Then, up 6-5 and Federer serving, Raonic played some fantastic shots to deny Federer the chance to drag it into the tie-breaker. There, he saved several set points to make it 7-5 and take it to the final set.
In the fifth set, Raonic finally managed to break Federer after a long rally to go up 3-1 and then 4-1, thanks to a succession of aces. Despite Federer winning two more games, the Canadian had stepped up a gear and pulled off four straight aces to win the last set 6-3 and progress to the final where he will meet either Andy Murray who defeated Tomas Berdych 6-3 6-3 6-3.
