Congress should contest the Punjab Assembly elections in 2017 on its own, instead of forming an alliance, state party chief Amarinder Singh said on Thursday. However, the final decision will be made by All India Congress Committee President Sonia Gandhi, he added.
The former Punjab chief minister is confident of the “tremendous” support the Congress is getting from people, PTI reported. Party workers are full of enthusiasm, he added.
Singh also pushed the Punjab Police to arrest Aam Aadmi Party legislator Naresh Yadav, who was booked for his alleged involvement in the desecration of the Quran in Malerkotla town recently. An investigation into the matter was progressing the right way, he said.
