The Delhi government on Wednesday suspended corruption-accused Arvind Kejriwal’s Principal Secretary Rajendra Kumar. He was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation on Monday, along with four others, in connection with a Rs 50-crore computer purchase scandal.
His suspension was in accordance with rules, which stipulate that an officer is considered suspended if he is kept in custody for more than 48 hours. The five arrested were remanded in custody for five days on Tuesday. Aam Aadmi Party leader and Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said the move was part of a conspiracy aimed at paralysing the chief minister’s office.
The CBI conducted raids in Kumar’s office at the Delhi Secretariat last year and accused him of criminal conspiracy. The agency filed an FIR in the case in December, accusing Kumar of favouring a firm while getting tenders from the Delhi government.
