Sania Mirza and Ivan Dodig, the No 1 seeded pair, were knocked out in the second round of the Wimbledon mixed doubles category. They lost 6-4 3-6 5-7 to the unseeded pair of Neal Skupski and Anna Smith on Tuesday.
Mirza and her Croatian partner started with a well-contested 6-4 victory in the first set, but they slumped to a 3-6 loss in the second. While they shot off to a 5-2 lead in the third set and looked set to win, their British opponents forced the game back to win it.
The Indian tennis star, however, progressed to the Wimbledon women's doubles quarterfinals with her partner Martina Hingis. Rohan Bopanna and his partner Anastasia Rodionova will also play in the third round of the mixed doubles competition.
