Prime Minister Narendra Modi will reshuffle his Cabinet on Tuesday, at an event at the Rashtrapati Bhavan. The Centre needs to fill a few vacancies in its council of ministers before the Monsoon Session of Parliament begins on July 18. Among these is the portfolio of the minister for sports and youth affairs, which was left vacant after Sarbananda Sonowal was appointed chief minister of Assam.
Modi and Bharatiya Jananta Party President Amit Shah had held a meeting last week and reportedly discussed the matter of the Cabinet rejig. Modi also consulted with Home Affairs Minister Rajnath Singh and Finance Minister Arun Jaitley.
The prime minister’s decision to not include leaders above the age of 75 still stands. BJP veterans LK Advani, Yashwant Sinha and Murli Manohar Joshi were not included in the Cabinet in 2014 as they were over 75 years old.
This will be the National Democratic Front government’s second Cabinet reshuffle since coming to power in May 2014. The last one was in November 2014.
