One Indian was among 20 victims who died in Dhaka when a terror outfit struck Holey Artisan Bakery late on Friday night, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj has said. The Indian was identified as 19-year-old Tarsi Jain who was studying at Berkeley, Swaraj confirmed. The Bangladesh Army had said all 20 civilians who died in the terror strike were foreign nationals, and many were Italian and Japanese nationals.
Thirteen hostages were rescued in an operation by Bangladesh Army personnel and police forces, and six gunmen were killed. One terrorist has been taken into custody. The Islamic State took responsibility for the attack in the cafe, which is frequented by many foreigners. The country’s prime minister, Sheikh Hasina, condemned the attack and said the country was making every effort to root out terrorism from it.
