A cloudburst in Uttarakhand's Chamoli district killed at least 30 people on Friday. While water levels continue to rise in areas such as Nandaprayag town, many are feared injured and trapped in Pithoragarh district’s Bastadi region, as well, ANI reported.
Heavy rain in the state has also blocked the Rishikesh-Badrinath National Highway (NH-58) and caused a landslide near Devprayag town. Several rivers have also flooded.
National Disaster Response Force personnel have been deployed to help those in affected regions, but they are facing challenges reaching them. "We have dispatched our NDRF teams, which were already pre-positioned, in Uttarakhand," Director General of the NDRF OP Singh said, adding that blocked roads were hindering their efforts. "Once they reach, they will be able to start their operations immediately, as they have trained manpower and are carrying all equipment."
The meteorological department has issued a warning in a number of regions in Uttarakhand for the next three days. These include Nainital, Udhamsingh Nagar and Champawat.
