Indian goalkeeper Gurpeet Singh Sandhu became the first player from his country to play in the Union of European Football Associations Europa League when he started for his Norwegian club Stabæk FC against Welsh club gap Connah's Quay Nomads FC in Wales on Thursday.
Sandhu was playing in the first qualifying round of the UEFA Europa League 2016-'17 season. He previously made history by becoming the first Indian player to appear in a top-division European league match when he started for his club against Idrettsklubben Start in May.
The Europa League is a prestigious European club competition, only one rung below the Champions League.
The 24-year-old Sandhu is a regular fixture in the Indian national team and has made ten appearances for the squad.
