Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly has criticised former team director Ravi Shastri for the comments he made on the selection of the team coach. Shastri was one of the top contenders for the job, which finally went to Anil Kumble, and had questioned Ganguly's absence from the interview process.
"If Ravi believes that am responsible for him not being coach, then he is mistaken. To imagine that I am responsible for him not being coach is living in a fool's paradise," said Ganguly, according to by India Today. The former Indian skipper also said Shastri should have given the interview for coach in person, rather than over Skype.
Shastri was India's team director till April, when his contract ended. He then applied for the post of India's coach. The Board of Control for Cricket in India appointed the Cricket Advisory Committee, comprising former cricketers VVS Laxman, Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly to appoint the next head coach. However, after Kumble was appointed, Shastri voiced annoyance at the fact that Ganguly was not present when he gave his interview.
