Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal's three-state tour got a setback on Wednesday after the Gujarat government rejected the party's request to hold an event at a venue picked out by them, reported dna. After Goa, the Delhi Chief Minister was scheduled to visit Punjab and meet Patidar community members in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's home state. The 13-day tour was aimed at campaigning for the party in the states that will hold Assembly elections in 2017.
The Patidar community has been demanding reservation for its members for a while now. Hardik Patel, who has been spearheading the agitation, was arrested on sedition charges on October 19, 2015. He has been in Lajpore Central Jail in Surat ever since. "Hardik Patel is in jail for the last eight months and he has been charged with sedition. People told me that they are very upset with this. What is the mistake of Hardik Patel. He raised his voice for Gujarati's and fought for their rights. He never raised a voice against the nation. He never spoke of breaking the nation," Kejriwal said.
