The National Investigation Agency on Wednesday detained 11 individuals after raiding a suspected terrorist module in Hyderabad. Officers recovered a large amount of cash, besides weapons and explosive materials during the raid, ANI reported.
The terrorist cell busted by the NIA is purported to be one belonging to the Islamic State, NDTV reported. The module was planning to launch a number of attacks across the city, officials said. A high alert has been sounded at Hyderabad's Rajiv Gandhi International Airport. Personnel of the Central Industrial Security Force and Rapid Action Force have been deployed.
Officials in the NIA said the detained terror suspects had been communicating with someone in Syria. They had been planning to target public locations and religious places.
Earlier this year, the NIA had taken 14 suspected Islamic State sympathisers into custody after conducting countrywide raids. They were reportedly planning to carry out simultaneous bomb blasts across the country on Republic Day.
