The investigation of the murder of an Infosys employee in Chennai was transferred to city police after the Madras High Court expressed its displeasure over the lack of progress in the case. S Swathi, 24, was hacked to death at Nungambakkam railway station on Friday morning and the Railway Police were unable to make any breakthroughs in the investigation.
Chennai Police had reportedly said that the railway station where the crime took place did not come under its jurisdiction. “Is there any ego clash or difference of opinion between the Railway Police and the State police,” asked the bench of Justices S Nagamuthu and V Bharathidasan. The division bench also asked the Public Prosecutor to submit a status report of action taken by police by 3 pm. If the report is unsatisfactory, the court will take suo motu action, the bench said.
Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam Treasurer and Opposition leader MK Stalin visited the victim's home on Friday, reported PTI. He requested the government to take quick action and prevent crimes. The DMK leader expressed concern over the deteriorating law and order situation in the city. Chennai has seen six murders, including S Swathi's, in four weeks, The Indian Express reported.
