An Infosys employee was hacked to death in broad daylight at Chennai's Nungambakkam railway station on Friday, reported The New Indian Express. The victim, identified as 24-year-old Swathi, was waiting for her train to work when the incident took place.
According to people present at the scene, a young man approached the woman and after a heated discussion between the two for a few minutes, he took out a sickle from his bag and attacked her. Onlookers were taken aback by the incident, and before they could nab the perpetrator, he fled the scene.
Swathi bled to death on the platform where her body lay for more than two hours before police personnel arrived. The station does not have any CCTV cameras installed, and hence investigators are still looking for clues to solve the case. Police said they believe the man was known to the victim. They are speaking to her friends and relatives to find headway in the investigation.
