The Congress on Thursday criticised the Aam Aadmi Party and said the “opportunist” party had no moral right to speak about principled politics anymore, ANI reported. Their statement comes hours after a woman filed an FIR against AAP legislator Dinesh Mohaniya for allegedly harassing and threatening her. She had visited his office with others to discuss water problems in her area, when the incident reportedly took place.
Mohaniya, however, denied the incident took place and told ANI, “There is no videographic or photographic proof to back their allegation.” The FIR was filed under IPC Section 506 (criminal intimidation), Section 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) and Section 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), according to The Indian Express. Mohaniya is vice-chairman of the Delhi Jal Board.
Congress leader PC Chacko said, “The Aam Aadmi Party is setting a very good record in Delhi. They claim that they are going to have clean politics and anti-corruption atmosphere in Delhi. But one by one, their MLAs are being caught in corruption cases… Now, he has completely lost the moral authority to speak about principled politics. The AAP has shed principled politics and has become an opportunist party. I believe if any sense of proportion is remaining with the Chief Minister (then) he should take immediate action against the MLA, who misbehaved with women.”
“He [Mohaniya] doesn't even sign or puts a stamp on our complaints. After that, he pushed me and other women and even abused us. We want that an FIR should be registered against him and he should be arrested,” the complainant had said.
