The Madhya Pradesh government will soon impose 6% tax on items purchased online, ANI reported. The step will be taken to increase the state’s revenue and cover all goods within the tax bracket.
“A 6% tax will be imposed on the items we get here through transporters. All the online shipments will be put under supervision, whether it’s within the country or from abroad,” said state Finance Minister Jayant Malaiya. He further said that the government has faced huge losses because people choose to shop online on retail websites like Amazon and Flipkart.
“This has been followed in many other countries and now when the Indian government has also taken it under consideration, suitable measures have been taken to entail it effectively,” said the minister.
