Prominent qawwali singer Amjad Sabri was killed in Karachi when unknown people shot at his car, reported Dawn. Local media reports said that others were also injured in the gunfire in Liaquatabad area on Wednesday. The 45-year-old was the nephew of renowned qawwali singer Maqbool Sabri, whose brother Ghulan Sabri was also a prominent singer. The two had formed a qawwali group called the Sabri Brothers.
Additional Inspector General Mushtaq Mehar told Dawn that it was a targeted killing, but that the killers' motives are unknown. Home Minister of Sindh, Suhail Anwar Sial, has asked for a report on the incident from Sindh Inspector General Police AD Khawaja and the additional inspector general, Dunya News said. Sial also convened a meeting of high security officials after the shooting.
The four gunmen were on two bikes and shot at Sabri's car at least 11 times. Sabri died of two gunshots to the head.
