Times Higher Education (THE) Asia University Rankings are out and Indian Institute of Science is the only university and the first Indian one to make it to the top 30 on the list, which was released on Monday. While Bengaluru's IISc took the 27th position, other Indian institutes are among the first 100. India has the maximum number of universities featured among the best 200 institutes in the continent. National University of Singapore topped the list and Nanyang Technological University secured the second spot, reported The Times of India.
All the Indian Institutes of Technology figure in the top 100 with the one in Mumbai at 43rd place, followed by Kharagpur (51st), Delhi (60th), Madras (62nd), Roorkee (65th), and Guwahati (80th). The Jadavpur University in Kolkata has been ranked 84th in Asia.
"India has made great gains in this list in recent years – just three institutions appeared in the top 100 in 2013 – but the nation still has a long way to go to compete with Asia's leading university nations, such as China, Japan and South Korea, and scores particularly weakly on internationalisation," said Phil Baty, editor of THE rankings.
