Lalkeshwar Prasad Singh, a key accused in the Bihar examination toppers scam, was arrested by a special investigation team in Varanasi on Monday. His wife and former Janata Dal (United) MLA, Usha Sinha, was also arrested. A local court on Friday had issued a warrant for their arrest in the scam. The two will be taken to Patna, The Hindu reported.
Singh was the former chairman of the Bihar School Examination Board, while Sinha headed Ganga Devi Women’s College in Patna. Both were absconding after the warrant was issued for their arrest on Friday.
Earlier in June, the BSEB cancelled the results of two toppers in the Class 12 examinations after they failed to re-prove their merit in a re-test that was ordered. The state asked for a re-test after one of the toppers was unable to answer questions about their subject in a video that went viral online.
