Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders said the major political task ahead of the Democratic party is to stop Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump from getting to the Oval Office, thus hinting that he will support his rival and party candidate for the post, Hillary Clinton, reported The Guardian. Sanders kept his statement cryptic and his supporters guessing as he said, "I personally intend to begin my role in that process in a very short period of time.”
“Election days come and go, but political and social revolutions that attempt to transform our society never end,” the Vermont senator said in a live stream video. He thanked his supporters for helping his 14-month-long campaign, and said, “We have begun the long and arduous process of transforming America, a fight that will continue tomorrow, next week, next year and into the future.”
The vague message could be indicative of the ongoing negotiations between Sander's campaign and that of Clinton's regarding several demands made by the former. “I look forward, in the coming weeks, to continued discussions between the two campaigns to make certain that your voices are heard and that the Democratic party passes the most progressive platform in its history and that Democrats actually fight for that agenda,” Sanders said.
Reacting to Sanders' speech, Clinton's campaign put out a statement, which read, "Clinton again congratulated Sanders on the campaign he has run, and said she appreciated his strong commitment to stopping Trump in the general election.”
