The Arvind Kejriwal government on Tuesday sent a letter to Anil Ambani about the frequent power cuts faced by the city, reported the Financial Express. Reliance ADA Group-owned BSES is one of the discoms that provide power to the national Capital. The government asked the company chairman to reply with a roadmap on dealing with the problem.
In May, Delhi Power Minister Satyendra Jain said local faults are to be blamed for the power cuts. At a meeting with power providers, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had proposed compensation for consumers facing unscheduled power cuts that are not fixed within two hours. According to the Aam Aadmi Party government, there is no shortage of power in the capital, and the problem lies with the discoms who are not conducting regular maintenance.
“We are keeping an eye on each and every fault. Why did we privatise power 15 years ago? For improvement, not tariff hikes. Discoms have to be held accountable. They keep blaming local faults. BSES areas have been experiencing more power cuts while TPDDL [Tata Power] areas have faced fewer snags,” Kejriwal said.
