Gopal Rai has stepped down from the post of Transport Minister in the Arvind Kejriwal Cabinet in the wake of corruption charges levelled against him, The Hindu reported quoting official sources. Health and PWD Minister Satyendra Jain has been reportedly given charge of the ministry. The Aam Aadmi Party confirmed the news and said Rai resigned for "health reasons".
Rai has been accused of favouring a particular aggregator for an app-based premium bus service scheme planned by the Delhi government. On Monday, he said he was “ready to go to jail” if the charges against him were proved. He was scheduled to appear before the Anti-Corruption Bureau on Tuesday in connection with the case.
