A drunk driver killed two people in Janakpuri, Delhi, early on Monday morning and left a third victim critically injured. The driver, 21-year-old engineering student Rishabh Rawat, was reportedly returning home from a friend's party. A police officer told The Indian Express that his alcohol level was at 159 mg, while the permissible limit is 30 mg, and when police caught up with Rawat, he had no idea what had happened. Officials also said he was so drunk when picked up by police that he was not making sense and could barely speak, Hindustan Times reported.

The incident took place around 6.15 am on Monday, and Rawat was caught after police chased his car for several minutes. CCTV footage of the accident purportedly shows Rawat speeding on the wrong side of the road. He first ran over 45-year-old Kameshwar Prasad and then crashed into Santosh, a car cleaner, around 100 metres away, injuring him. He then hit 67-year-old Ashwani Anand.

Both Anand and Prasad, who were out for their morning walk, died on the spot. Officials said Rawat was likely to have been driving as fast as 100 kmph when he crashed into the victims.

The incident comes on the heels of a hit-and-run in February this year, where the driver was a few days short of his 18th birthday. One pedestrian died on the spot in the accident.
