Tendulkar donated the money under the Member of Parliament Local Area Development scheme. Now, construction of a library, a laboratory and a common room for girls are underway at the school. The school will invite the retired cricketer for the inaugural ceremony of the new facilities. “We will write to the MP to be present with us when we unveil the new infrastructure,” said principal Uttamkumar Mohanty.
The 50-year-old school, which has around 900 students, had written a letter to Tendulkar two years ago, divulging their plans for a library room, laboratory and a common room for girls. Six months later, the Rajya Sabha MP responded, saying the funds were being released. “The realisation hasn’t yet sunk in. We have no words to express our gratitude,” the school principal said.
