India's Saina Nehwal is the Australian Open Super Series champion after beating China's Sun Yu 11-21, 21-14, 21-19 in 72 minutes on Sunday in Sydney. This is the 26-year-old's second Australian Open title win – the first was in 2014 and 10th overall Super Series triumph in her career, reported The Times of India. This was also her first title win this season, which stands her in good stead for the Rio Olympics in August.
Nehwal had beaten two world champions – Thailand’s Ratchanok Intanon and China’s Yihan Wang – in the quarter-finals and semi-finals respectively. This was the first time the World No 8 was playing in a final after losing to Chinese player Li Xuerui in China in November.
