Pakistani police have arrested a constable who reportedly assaulted a Hindu octogenarian for eating before Iftar in Ghotki, according to The Dawn. Pictures of Gokal Das showing his bruises had gone viral on the internet with netizens demanding justice for the man.
A First Information Report was filed on the basis of the complaint made by Das's grandson Vindod Kumar. SSP Ghotki Masood Bangash said the FIR was registered under several sections of the Pakistan Penal Code at the Jarwar police station.
Members of rights groups campaigning for justice in the case welcomed the swift and fast action taken by the government in the case. Bakhtawar Bhutto Zardari, Pakistan Peoples Party chief Bilawal Bhutto's sister, took to twitter to share the news of the arrest.
