Bachcha Rai, the principal of VR College in Bihar’s Vaishali district, surrendered before the police on Saturday in connection with the cheating case that has emerged from the state’s Class 12 board exam results. Rai had been absconding for four days, but was arrested after he gave himself up to the Bhagwanpur Police.
A Special Investigation Team was set up to look into the exam results on Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s orders after several toppers were found to be clueless about their subjects. Rai is the Secretary-cum-Principal of the college, which several of the state toppers attended. Rai is also a known supporter of the Rashtriya Janata Dal.
The Chairman of Bihar School Examination Board, Lalkeshwar Prasad Singh, resigned on Wednesday. Rai claimed he had no links with Singh, whom the police are hunting for next, according to India Today.
The 14 toppers had been asked to appear for a retest and an interview with a panel of subject experts on June 3.
