Saina Nehwal and Kidambi Srikanth entered the semi-finals of the ongoing Australian Open in the women's singles and men's singles categories respectively in Sydney on Friday.
The seventh-seeded Nehwal defeated the second seed Ratchanok Intanon from Thailand in straight sets 28-26 21-16. Nehwal will now face fourth seed Wang Yihan from China in the semi-finals.
In the men's draw, Srikanth also dispatched Heo Kwang-hee from Japan in comprehensive style, defeating him 21-18 21-17. Srikanth will now meet Hans-Kristian Vittinghus in the semi-finals.
Both Srikanth and Nehwal have qualified for the Olympics in Rio. Nehwal finished second at the Australian Open in 2014 and will be looking to go one better this time.
