Five convicts on Friday were sentenced to life for gangraping a Danish tourist in 2014. Delhi’s Tiz Hazari court had convicted the five accused on Monday, June 6.
On January 4, nine accused of the crime, including three juveniles, had raped the 52-year-old woman after leading her to an isolated spot at knifepoint. The incident took place near the Divisional Railway Officers’ Club close to the station. The woman had asked them for directions to her hotel in Delhi’s Paharganj locality.
Arjun (22), Raju alias Chhakka (23), Mohammad Raja (23), Mahendra alias Ganja (27) and Raju alias Bajji (24) were convicted under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code. These include sections 376 (D) for gangrape, 395 for dacoity, 366 for abduction, 342 for wrongful confinement, 506 for criminal intimidation and 34 for common intention.
Shyam Lal, another accused in the case, died in Tihar Jail in February. The Juvenile Justice Board is handling the proceedings of the three minors accused in the case, Hindustan Times reported.
