Investigators on Friday arrested the personal assistant of one of the doctors embroiled in the kidney racket unearthed in the Apollo Hospital, reported ANI. With this, the number of people who have been held in connection with the illegal organ donation scam so far has gone up to 12.
The key accused in the case, who was arrested from Rajarhat near Kolkata on June 8, is believed to have told the investigators that as many as 20 illegal surgeries were conducted at Apollo Hospital in Delhi's Sarita Vihar over the past 18 months. The court sent 40-year-old T Rajkumar Rao to police custody for four days, according to The Indian Express.
“Rao revealed that he had started running the racket in Delhi in 2015, when he met several nephrologists and their office staff at Apollo Hospital, after posing as a medical representative,” the report said quoting a source. Police are likely to soon arrest Rao's wife in connection with the case.
