Google's Street View service has failed to get security clearance from the Narendra Modi government after the defence ministry said such geospatial service might put the country at risk of being easily breached by terrorists. The service, which provides a panoramic real-life view of cities, is meant to help tourists in general, and governments during natural disasters, reported The Hindu.

A technical committee of the defence ministry is believed to have objected to the internet giant's plan, saying such information can make the country vulnerable to security breaches. “The main concern was security of sensitive defence installations. The Defence Ministry said it was not possible to monitor the service once it was launched and it would be detrimental to national security,” said the report, quoting a senior government official.
