Mexico has extended its support for India's bid to secure a spot in the Nuclear Suppliers Group, reported The Indian Express. President Enrique Pena Nieto announced federal republic's stand on Wednesday after meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi who is on the last leg of his five-nation tour.
“Mexico is an important partner for India’s energy security. We are looking to move beyond buyer-seller relationship”, Modi said and thanked the Nieto for his support. On Monday, India joined the Missile Technology Control Regime, after none of the 35 member nations voiced any objections to India's request to be a part of the non-proliferation group.
Modi has been travelling the world in an effort to garner support for India's membership to the NSG, which it applied for in May. Switzerland had promised its support when Modi was there earlier in the week, and the US has also expressed its willingness, though an official announcemet of support has not been made yet.
