AICTE chairperson Anil D Sahasrabudhe said some states are currently using JEE-Main as the entrance test to fill up engineering seats in state colleges. "We are planning to make JEE-Main the single entrance test in the country," he told TOI.
Currently, the Central Board of Secondary Education conducts the JEE-Main for admissions to the Indian Institute of Technology, National Institutes of Technology, Indian Institute of Information Technology and other Centrally-funded institutes.
Apart from this major change, Sahasrabudhe said the AICTE will shut down engineering colleges that lack infrastructure or have poor student strength or a dearth of faculty members. A panel of AICTE of members will soon start touring engineering colleges across the country, said the chairperson. He also added that the Ministry of Human Resource Development will identify and help 10 good private institutes and 10 government ones improve their standards and become one among the top 100 institutes in the world.
