India trashed Laos 6-1 in the second leg of their play-off against Laos in the 2019 AFC Asian Cup qualifiers on Sunday at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium in Guwahati. By virtue of this win and their 1-0 victory in the first leg, India go through to the third round of qualifying with an aggregate score of 7-1.
Despite the final scoreline, India actually had to struggle for much of the first half after Laos scored in the 16th minute through Khonesavanh Sihavong. However, the floodgates opened through a strike from Jeje Lalpekhlua in the 43rd minute and there was no looking back. Sumeet Passi put India in front through a goal in the dying stages of the first half.
Sandeep Jhingan added a third in the 48th minute and Lalpekhlua got his brace in the 74th. Laos were struggling to contain a rampant Indian attack as Mohammad Rafique and Fulganco Cardozo both scored in the 83rd and 87th minute.
At the end, it was a historic victory for the Blue Tigers, with this 6-1 scoreline being one of the biggest in their history.
